External vocabularies

The dat@UBFC portal uses external reference sources, thesaurus and classifications recognised by the scientific communities in their fields of study.

During the validation phase of the records, the librairians link the keywords and taxons entered by the researchers to these controlled vocabularies, in order to suggest a structured and standardised organisation of the described data and to optimise the search.

Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names

The Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names is a geographicdatabase. The site provides the geographic coordinates of 900,000 places in the world.

Loterre - Thésaurus de la science ouverte

This multilingual thesaurus, created by INIST-CNRS, gathers and structures, with a polyhierarchy, the main concepts of open science. It was initiated by using existing glossaries and the taxonomy proposed in the FOSTER project. It is enriched through a search of reference documents in the field.

NASA Thesaurus

The scope of this controlled vocabulary includes not only aerospace engineering, but also all supporting fields of engineering and physics, astronomy, astrophysics, earth sciences, and biological sciences. The thesaurus contains over 18,400 terms. It is available in pdf and only in english.

General multilingual Environnmental Thesaurus

(General Multilingual Environmental Thesaurus) is a "general" multilingual environmental thesaurus developed and published by the European Environment Agency (EEA). It aims to define a common language, constituting a core of environmental terminology.

Unified Astronomy Thesaurus

Unified Astronomy Thesaurus is an open, interoperable and freely available thesaurus formalizing astronomical concepts and their correlations. Only the english version is available.

Thésaurus de l'UNESCO

The UNESCO Thesaurus is a controlled and structured list of terms used in subject analysis and retrieval of documents and publications in the fields of education, culture, natural sciences, social and human sciences, communication and information. Continuously enriched and updated, its multidisciplinary terminology reflects the evolution of UNESCO's programmes and activities.

World Register of Marine Species

WoRMS is a database that provides an up-to-date list of the names of taxa of marine organisms. In 2021 it listed 239910 accepted marine species (97% of which were verified) and 476571 names of marine species, including synonyms.

STW Thesaurus for Economics
